9-14-13 Walk 114

Lyrics:

Do you wonder why you have to,
Feel the things that hurt you,
If there’s a God who loves you,
Where is He now?

Maybe, there are things you can’t see
And all those things are happening
To bring a better ending
Some day, some how, you’ll see, you’ll see

Would dare you, would you dare, to believe,
That you still have a reason to sing,
’cause the pain you’ve been feeling,
Can’t compare to the joy that’s coming

So hold on, you got to wait for the light
Press on, just fight the good fight
Because the pain you’ve been feeling,
It’s just the dark before the morning

My friend, you know how this all ends
And you know where you’re going,
You just don’t know how you get there
So just say a prayer.

And hold on, cause there’s good for those who love God,
Life is not a snapshot, it might take a little time,
But you’ll see the bigger picture

Once you feel the way of glory,
All your pain will fade to memory

Lamentations 3:22-24

“Because of the Lord’s great love

we are not consumed,

for His compassions never fail.

They are new every morning;

great is Your faithfulness.

I say to myself,

‘The Lord is my portion;

therefore I will wait for Him.'”

Say this to yourself ever day!!

To walk the walk of Faith in our Mighty God!

Psalm 30:5

“His anger lasts only a moment,

His goodness for a lifetime.

Tears may flow in the night,

but joy comes in the morning.”

“Oh, By The Way…Do We Have Any Gauze?!?”

Standard

That’s how our son greeted us on Tuesday evening…

After walking through the door…

Dropping down his bag…

And saying to our “Crazy Siberian…”

“Oh, please don’t jump on me!!”

Hey!

What’s going on???

He knows our “Precious Little Girl”

Jumps up on everybody who walks through our door…

Especially up on him…

Since he’s been away for five days!!

Also…

What’s with the “gauze” question???

Well…

Crazy story here…

Seems that he and his three friends…

While at the Dragon Conference in Atlanta, Georgia…

–Comic Book/Gaming, etc.–

Saw William Shatner (Captain Kirk) from Star Trek,

Billy Dee Williams (Lando) from Star Wars,

And John Glover from Smallville…

And purchased several fine prop swords…

For a great discount (I learned later…)

Two remarkable swords for only $50.00!

9-7-13 Phil-Mary-Sword 005

The third young man went ahead…

And purchased his own REAL fighting sword…

So now three young men…

Out of the four…

Have beautiful, long, shiny swords…

Two quite sharp and real-looking…

And the third sword the real thing!

In one hotel room!

To what???

Play with???

To swing and pretend..

You’re a Ninja Warrior!!

Well, let’s just say…

Because I’m sure we don’t know all the details…

Ha!

The sword of the Friendly Ninja Warrior…

With the prop sword…

Punctured the buttocks of our equally friendly Warrior-Son!!

As I hear it…

And again, I’m sure that in the telling…

We don’t know…

And will never know…

All the gory details…

But…

(Pun intended!  Ha!)

Blood was gushing…

Pain was felt…

Apologies were accepted…

Bandages and Neosporin were purchased…

And friends rallied to…

Help take care of their wounded Warrior friend!

Bleeding stopped…

Pain subsided…

No reason to stop a perfectly good trip…

Or tell the parents…

Who would have insisted…

On a trip to the ER…

For the gaping hole…

Where the sword went in!!

No!

The wound was kept clean…

Bandages were changed…

And the fun continued…

At the Conference…

And the next day at Six Flags!

Mom and Dad called…

To wish their 23 year-old Boy

Man

Now Warrior!

A Happy, Happy Birthday!!

And by then the Warriors had conquered this slight glitch…

And reported that all was well!!

9-7-13 Phil-Mary-Sword 006

It brought back memories of my parents never knowing EVERYTHING either!

PLUS:

Did I tell you in any other posts…

That this kid is blessed???

I was at home praying:

“Dear Lord,

Please put a hedge of protection

Around him…

Wherever he is…

Whoever he’s with…

Whatever he’s doing!”

God’s good, huh?!?!

The kid could have been punctured by the other sword…

The real one…

Or, he could have punctured something other than the backside, fleshy area!!

So I took him to the ER…

On Tuesday night…

So he could get those…

Sterile tape things…

To hold the edges of the wound together…

An antibiotic…

A tetanus shot…

And have a nice conversation with him…

About how blessed he is…

Ha!

To have a God-trusting Mom like me!!

About how MY mother would have freaked out about this…

Since she was shocked at everything…

And how my grandma would have been screaming in Italian…

“O, Mio Dio!”

So he’s getting off easy!

Ha!

Since, I thought of it as a good blog post!

He thought of it as a good story to tell his kids someday!

And it reminded me that my younger brother…

Was a hazard to my health, too…

As we were growing up!

Once when we were playing with a pretty good-sized wire spring…

It somehow landed in my eyelid…

Grandma was watching us that day…

Hence, the “O Mio Dio” screams!

And once when we had about 6′ of  snow fall in NJ…

With snow drifts up to the windows!

Or, so it seemed to me…

And everything was at a stand-still!

Schools were closed…

No vehicles could get through…

We all went out to shovel snow…

And that same little brother took that shovel to pick up some snow…

And it landed right in the left side of my lip!!!

Emergency police in a jeep had to come get me…

To bring me to the hospital for stitches!

With four kids…

These are only two reasons why my Mom just stayed shocked…

All the time…

While we were growing up!

Thank God…

We all made it to adulthood!!

Who says, it’s dull around here?!?!

Sometimes…

Our prayers are needed just to protect ourselves…

from ourselves!!

Don’t ever apologize…

for being highly blessed by God!

Since that means that…

We Believe…

Jesus is watching over us at all times!!

He is!!

Thank you, Jesus!!!

Mark 9:22

“Everything is possible

for one who believes.”

(photo of Casey’s sword)

I have to believe

He sees my darkness

He knows my pain

I have to lift up

My hands to worship

Worship His Name

I have to declare

He is my refuge

I have to deny…

I am alone

I have to lift up…

My eyes to the mountains

Where my help comes from

He said…

He’s forever faithful

He’s forever true

He can move mountains

If He can move mountains

He can move my mountain

He can move your mountain, too

Oh, I have to stand tall

When the wind blows me over

I have to stand strong

When I’m weak and afraid

I have to grab hold

Of the garments of praise

I know, that I know, that I know

Because He said…

He’s forever faithful

He’s forever true

He can move mountains

If He can move mountains…

He can move my mountain

He can move your mountain, too

I have to sing praise

When the hour is midnight

He unlocks these chains

That bind up my soul

My sin and my shame

He has forgiven and made me whole

Because He said…

He’s forever faithful

He’s forever true

He can move mountains

If He can move mountains

He can move my mountain

He can move your mountain, too

I have to believe

He’s got everything under control

I have to believe

Lord, I believe

Help my unbelief

I have to believe in You

I have to believe!

They do things independently of their parents!!

Happy Birthday, Casey!

Please read it…

Be prepared to cry and rejoice!!

Here’s my comment to her:

Holley, I read this post this morning…

As we were getting ready to celebrate my son’s 23rd Birthday…

We did the 10-year “infertility roller-coaster” years ago to have him…

I had him when I was 41…

He’s the light of our lives…

And our gift from God!

There was a point where we came to the same moment you and your husband came to…

We were only going to be able to afford one more round of in-vitro…

and my very blunt Mom said to me,

“Maybe it’s not God’s will for you to have a child!”

That shocked me…

I stopped in my tracks thinking about it!!

Then, I knew I believed that it WAS God’s will for me to have a child!

We had a miscarriage before my son,

Lost the other two embryos that were transferred with him,

And had a miscarriage after him!!

Though I wanted all those babies we lost,

I know I’ll see them in Heaven!

Now I direct a Drama Team at church,

And I’m “Drama Mama” to so many kids, teens, and young adults!!

God is so good!!

We each need to ask God the hard questions as you did…

And His answers are the BEST for our lives!

May God richly bless you always!!”

Grow A “Compact Organic” Garden!!

Homeowners who think their yard is just too small for a garden that produces the high yields they desire may have to think again.

Walter Sosnosky has about 500 individual plants on property only 50 feet wide and 100 feet long at his home in Kenilworth.

He grows everything from arugula to sweet banana peppers, as well as herbs and flowers.

His plant inventory is even more impressive when taking into account that there is, of course, a house on the lot;

as well as a 20-foot-long driveway; a 30-by-16-foot pool; a patio; a deck; and two sheds.

He does it all using a method called Compact and Organic Gardening.

“What I have done is thrown out the book on conventional gardening,”

Sosnosky said.

“In modern terms, I have gone rough.”

He gives an example:

The golden rule on tomatoes, he said, is that they are not to be grown within about 2 to 3 feet of one another.

“Mine are approximately one foot apart and I intermingle them with eggplants, bell peppers and garlic,”

Sosnosky said.

“So as they grow, the plants support each other in the growing process.”

To ensure everything is organic, he follows a strict protocol. Here are some of rules he adheres to:

1. To ward off ants, he sprinkles instant grits across the problem area.
2. To keep away squirrels and other creatures in the rodent family, he grows peppermint among other plants.
3. To keep the yard bug-free, he recommends spraying a mixture of antiseptic mouth wash and lemon-scented dish-washing soap.
4. To keep a good PH balance in the soil, use coffee grounds and ground egg shells. This also helps discourage slugs, and keeps the neighborhood cat and dog from next door from roaming around, he said.

“In the fertilizer department, I use fish emulsion, beer and sugared colas,”

Sosnosky said.

“These all add to robust and healthy plant life.”

“Make the effort and the rewards are yours,”

he said,

explaining that those practicing compact organic gardening will be repaid with a bounty of vegetables, herbs and fruits,

like “lush Jersey tomatoes,” married with the “fresh scents of basil, rosemary and lavender, to name a few.”

Here’s an inventory of all the types of plants, with numbers of each type, growing on Sosnosky’s less than 1/8 of an acre:

Alyssum 12; Eggplant 22; Rutgers Tomatoes 6; Lemon Boy Tomatoes 6; Marigolds 24; Cucumbers 6; Beef Master Tomatoes 5; Blueberry Bush 1; Impatiens 140; Lobelia 32; Dianthus 12; Verbena 12; Snap Peas 21; Garlic Plants 25; Basil 6; Habanera Peppers 5; Snap Dragons 11; Gazania 9; Salmon Geranium 10; Petunias 59; Raspberry Plants 4; Bell Peppers 2; Jalapeño Peppers 4; Cayenne 3; Sweet Banana Peppers 4; Pop Pop Peppers 2; Better Boy Tomatoes 3; Parsley 4; Arugula 4; Super Sonic Tomatoes 9; Rosemary 1; Greek Oregano 1; Lavender 1; Horseradish 1; Butterfly Bush 1; Assorted Wild Flowers 50.

To the one who’s dreams are falling all apart
And all you’re left with is a tired and broken heart
I can tell by your eyes you think your on your own
But you’re not all alone!

Have you heard of the One who can calm the raging seas
Give sight to the blind, pull the lame up to their feet?
With a love so strong He’ll never let you go
Oh, you’re not alone!

You will be safe in His arms!
You will be safe in His arms!
‘Cause the Hands that hold the world are holding your heart
This is the promise He made
He will be with You always!
When everything is falling apart
You will be safe in His arms!

Did you know that the Voice that brings the dead to life
Is the very same Voice that calls you to rise?
So hear Him now He’s calling you home
You will never be alone!

These are the Hands that built the mountains
The Hands that calm the seas
These are the Arms that hold the Heavens
They are holding you and me!

These are Hands that healed the leper
Pulled the lame up to their feet
These are the Arms that were nailed to a cross

Come To Your Senses! Get Down! Go Back Home!

Standard

The way up is to get down!

This was our sermon on Sunday!

It’s the cure for…

“Give me!”

“Notice me!”

“Poor me!”

When it really should be…

“Search me!”

“Make me!”

It means…

Total surrender!

To Jesus!!

Two examples…

King Nebuchadnezzar

Daniel 4: 33-37

“Immediately what had been said about Nebuchadnezzar was fulfilled.

He was driven away from people and ate grass like the ox.

His body was drenched with the dew of heaven

until his hair grew like the feathers of an eagle

and his nails like the claws of a bird.

At the end of that time,

I, Nebuchadnezzar, raised my eyes toward heaven,

and my sanity was restored. Then I praised the Most High;

I honored and glorified Him who lives forever.

His dominion is an eternal dominion;

His kingdom endures from generation to generation.

All the peoples of the earth are regarded as nothing.

He does as He pleases with the powers of Heaven

and the peoples of the earth.

No one can hold back His hand or say to Him:

‘What have you done?’

At the same time that my sanity was restored,

my honor and splendor were returned to me

for the glory of my kingdom.

My advisers and nobles sought me out,

and I was restored to my throne

and became even greater than before.

Now I, Nebuchadnezzar,

praise and exalt and glorify the King of Heaven,

because everything He does is right

and all His ways are just.

And those who walk in pride He is able to humble.

The Prodigal Son

Luke 15:11-24

Jesus continued:

There was a man who had two sons.

The younger one said to his father,

‘Father, give me my share of the estate.’

So he divided his property between them.

Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had,

set off for a distant country

and there squandered his wealth in wild living.

After he had spent everything,

there was a severe famine in that whole country,

and he began to be in need.

So he went and hired himself out to a citizen of that country,

who sent him to his fields to feed pigs.

He longed to fill his stomach with the pods

that the pigs were eating,

but no one gave him anything.

When he came to his senses, he said,

‘How many of my father’s hired servants have food to spare,

and here I am starving to death!

I will set out and go back to my father and say to him:

Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you.

I am no longer worthy to be called your son;

make me like one of your hired servants.’

So he got up and went to his father.

But while he was still a long way off his father saw him

and was filled with compassion for him;

he ran to his son,

threw his arms around him

and kissed him.

The son said to him,

‘Father, I have sinned against Heaven and against you.

I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’

But the father said to his servants,

‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him.

Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet.

Bring the fattened calf and kill it.

Let’s have a feast and celebrate.

For this son of mine was dead and is alive again;

he was lost and is found.’

So they began to celebrate.”

There’s a downside to being puffed up…
Our inside is empty of the one thing…
Our heart truly needs
We feel invincible…
It’s always all about us!
Let’s love Him like we should…
Like He loves us!
Through bad and good…
And finally figure out where happiness is found!
In the midst of sadness…
We are closer to Him now…
And that’s the upside of down!
It’s all switched around…
I was lost and now I’m found!
The upside of down!!
He is “more” in our “less…”
He is strength in our weakness…
Don’t go back again
His sunshine ends the rain!!
Don’t return to your old ways…
Don’t be a fair- weather friend!
The upside of tragedies…
Is knowing He’s holding your heart always…
Always!!!
  We may be down…
But find the joy in the pain…
The upside of down!
It’s all switched around…
I was lost and now I’m found!
The upside of down!!
Amen!!

God Bless America!

Praying you had a blessed 4th of July!

And that you are free indeed!

Standing on a hillside
Where the river meets the sea
White crosses without number
Line the fields of peace
And each one a silent witness
Staring back at me
Every cross a story
Of another place in time
Where young men thought it worthy
To give their life for mine
And for the sake of honor
Left their dreams behind
And for the price they paid
I’m forever in their debt
Their memory will not die
‘Cause I will not forget
I will stand and hold my head up high
I will dedicate my life
To the glory of the ones who had to die
I will live, live what I believe
If for no one else but me
To remember
That freedom’s never free
It was on another hillside
Outside the city gates
The battle lines were drawn
As soldiers took their place
The Father watched in silence
As a cross was raised
With freedom drawing closer
He took His final breath
He drank our cup of guilt
And took the sting from death
Heaven’s Finest Soldier
Clothed in human flesh
And for the price He paid
I’m forever in His debt
The cross will never die
‘Cause I will not forget
I will stand and hold my head up high
I will dedicate my life
To the glory of the One who had to die
I will live, live what I believe
If for no one else but me
I will remember that
Freedom’s Never Free
I will walk free
I will stay free
I will live free
I will die free!

Where Are You???

Standard

I’m at your feet, Lord!

There is nowhere else for me!

My King!

All I need is at Your feet!

My soul sings!

Here at Your feet I lay my life down!

Kneel before His feet!

Pour out your love for the Master!

Pour praise on Him like oil!

You weren’t there the night Jesus found me!

You did not feel what I felt…

When He wrapped His love all around me!

I was a prisoner to the sins that had me bound…

Until the day when Jesus came to me!

And healed my soul with the wonder of His touch!

So now I’m giving back to Him all the praise He’s worthy of!

I’ve been forgiven…

And that’s why I love Him so much!

You don’t know the cost of my praise!

You don’t know the cost of the oil in my alabaster box!!

At The Feet Of Jesus

Sermon by Rodney Burton

http://www.sermoncentral.com/sermons/at-the-feet-of-jesus-rodney-burton-sermon-on-jesus-christ-131517.asp

Luke 10:38-42

“As Jesus and His disciples were on their way,

He came to a village where a woman named Martha

 opened her home to Him.

She had a sister called Mary,

who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what He said.

But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made.

She came to him and asked,

 ‘Lord,

don’t You care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself?

 Tell her to help me!’

 Martha, Martha,’

 the Lord answered,

‘you are worried and upset about many things,

 but few things are needed—

 or indeed only one.

Mary has chosen what is better,

and it will not be taken away from her.'”

“This is where worship occurs.
Every time in the Word
we encounter Mary of Bethany (the sister of Lazarus),
we find her at the feet of Jesus.
The heart of worship is to find ourselves at the feet of Jesus in submission.
How often do we find ourselves there?
Do we really possess a strong desire for God and His presence?
Do we go through life largely consumed with secular pursuits and worldly entertainment,
while the things of God have little place in our lives?

1. At His Feet to Listen to His Words.

a. While Martha was busy,

Mary was at the feet of Jesus listening to Him.

b. She was open to what He had to say.

c. She was hungry to know Him and hear from Him.

d. Jesus declared that Mary had chosen the good part.

e. Sometimes we get so caught up like Martha

in trying to do the work and service of Christianity

that we forfeit what is really important.

f. We can get so busy in the doing that we forget the being.

g. The most important thing a Christian will ever do is

worship Jesus,

and the best place to do that is at His feet.

2. At His Feet to Bless and Anoint Him.

a. John 12:3  Then Mary took about a pint of pure nard,

an expensive perfume;

she poured it on Jesus’ feet

and wiped His feet with her hair.

And the house was filled with the fragrance

of the perfume.”

Mary anoints the feet of Jesus and wipes them with her hair.

b. So often people are looking to receive an anointing or blessing from God

rather than looking for opportunities to anoint and bless Him.

c. The highest degree or form of devotion is to give to someone

without the motivation of getting anything in return.

d. Mary’s act was motivated purely by love.

e. A note in the Full Life Study Bible declares,

(Mary’s) faith in and devotion to the Lord

is the highest example of what God desires in believers.

3. At His Feet When He Didn’t Do Things The Way She Wanted or Expected.

a. John 11:32 “When Mary reached the place where Jesus was and saw Him,

she fell at His feet and said,

‘Lord, if You had been here,

my brother would not have died.’”

Lazarus was in a tomb.

Surely Jesus could have prevented that.

b. Even though Jesus had not acted in the way Mary had desired,

she still laid at His feet in devotion, submission and worship.

c. The true character of a person’s heart will be revealed

when God acts differently from their desires or expectations.

d. Whenever God is doing things that are beneficial or going your way,

it is real easy to worship Him

and be at His feet.

e. True worship that is genuine and from the heart

comes regardless of the circumstances in which we find ourselves.”

Fall at His Feet!

Always!
