I’d appreciate your prayers!!

My son and I have been directing our A.L.I.V.E. Drama Team for 10 years now.

I’ve been a licensed minister for 2 and a half years.

I’ve been praying for God’s will

in what He wants to accomplish in our lives,

and with our drama team.

I have a heart to encourage everyone to use and develop their gifts and talents for the Lord,

and to raise them up as leaders.

One Saturday morning, several months ago, God gave me a vision for a worship service.

I am to pastor an outreach ministry, for all ages, called,

“ALIVE!  Worship.”

It should consist of dynamic preaching and teaching,

contemporary Christian music,

relevant drama, anointed dance, skits, Improv, anointed art,

prayer time, altar time,

and from time to time, we’re to host guest worship leaders,

preachers, teachers, dancers, etc.

Included in worship time/altar time, there should be anointing with oil,

for all those needing a touch from God.

My son and I are to direct this ministry through our existing

A.L.I.V.E. Drama Team Ministry

of kids, teens, young adults, parents, and also other church workers.

We will design “ALIVE!  Worship” t-shirts.

To start out, we’re to use the last Friday of each month for this ministry

starting on September 26, 2014,

from 6 pm to 8 pm, at our church.

Then, we’re to wait for God to enlarge it!

“ALIVE!  Worship”

will lift up the Name of Jesus

and will be used by the Lord in any of the following outreach areas where He leads:

Kids Church, Youth Groups, Church Services, Schools, Conferences,

Competitions, Camps, Community Outreaches, etc.

We will actively seek out venues for “ALIVE!   Worship”

to serve the Lord in our community,

and we will be obedient when He opens those doors.

The criteria for workers to be included in “ALIVE!  Worship” is:

1-A Godly attitude of worship to Jesus Christ our Lord

2-A heart that desires to outreach to lost souls

3-A willingness to work and cooperate as a team

4-A willingness to pray for our goal to glorify our Lord

5-All ages welcome

6-Participants will be viewed as “leaders and ambassadors” for the Lord,

and behavior, speech, and attire must reflect that.

Everyone is invited and encouraged to enthusiastically worship with us!!!

We declare that we have prayed about this ministry vision from the Lord,

and feel the Lord will equip us to step out in faith at this time.

We pledge to continually pray for His wisdom and guidance

as He shows us His will

and the way we can glorify His Name

and serve in His Kingdom.

The Lord has given me a vision of

“ALIVE!  Worship”

becoming an

Awesome, Mighty, Outreach Force for the Lord!

Amen!

Words From a Father to His Daughter

(From the Makeup Aisle)

self-image

Reblogged from:  http://drkellyflanagan.com/?s=makeup+aisle&submit=Search

Dear Little One,

As I write this, I’m sitting in the makeup aisle of our local Target store. A friend recently texted me from a different makeup aisle and told me it felt like one of the most oppressive places in the world. I wanted to find out what he meant. And now that I’m sitting here, I’m beginning to agree with him. Words have power, and the words on display in this aisle have a deep power. Words and phrases like:

Affordably gorgeous,

Infallible,

Flawless finish,

Brilliant strength,

Liquid power,

Go nude,

Age defying,

Instant age rewind,

Choose your dream,

Nearly naked, and

Natural beauty.

When you have a daughter you start to realize she’s just as strong as everyone else in the house—a force to be reckoned with, a soul on fire with the same life and gifts and passions as any man. But sitting in this store aisle, you also begin to realize most people won’t see her that way. They’ll see her as a pretty face and a body to enjoy. And they’ll tell her she has to look a certain way to have any worth or influence.

But words do have power and maybe, just maybe, the words of a father can begin to compete with the words of the world. Maybe a father’s words can deliver his daughter through this gauntlet of institutionalized shame and into a deep, unshakeable sense of her own worthiness and beauty.

A father’s words aren’t different words, but they are words with a radically different meaning:

Brilliant strength. May your strength be not in your fingernails but in your heart. May you discern in your center who you are, and then may you fearfully but tenaciously live it out in the world.

Choose your dream. But not from a department store shelf. Find the still-quiet place within you. A real dream has been planted there. Discover what you want to do in the world. And when you have chosen, may you faithfully pursue it, with integrity and with hope.

Naked. The world wants you to take your clothes off. Please keep them on. But take your gloves off. Pull no punches. Say what is in your heart. Be vulnerable. Embrace risk. Love a world that barely knows what it means to love itself. Do so nakedly. Openly. With abandon.

Infallible. May you be constantly, infallibly aware that infallibility doesn’t exist. It’s an illusion created by people interested in your wallet. If you choose to seek perfection, may it be in an infallible grace—for yourself, and for everyone around you.

Age defying. Your skin will wrinkle and your youth will fade, but your soul is ageless. It will always know how to play and how to enjoy and how to revel in this one-chance life. May you always defiantly resist the aging of your spirit.

Flawless finish. Your finish has nothing to do with how your face looks today and everything to do with how your life looks on your last day. May your years be a preparation for that day. May you be aged by grace, may you grow in wisdom, and may your love become big enough to embrace all people. May your flawless finish be a peaceful embrace of the end and the unknown that follows, and may it thus be a gift to everyone who cherishes you.

Little One, you love everything pink and frilly and I will surely understand if someday makeup is important to you. But I pray three words will remain more important to you—the last three words you say every night, when I ask the question: “Where are you the most beautiful?” Three words so bright no concealer can cover them.

Where are you the most beautiful?

On the inside.

From my heart to yours,

Daddy

Like the last letter I wrote to my daughter, I wrote this first for her and the day I’ll eventually read it to her. But I also wrote it for every woman who needs to hear the words of a father. Women, no one else can define your beauty for you. But they’ll try.

My daughter is four years-old now. If her awakening to the makeup aisle comes at the typical age, I figure we have about five years to radically alter the arc of history and the subjugation-by-image of the female gender. We’ve got a lot of work to do. And it begins in the heart of each and every woman.

“Chosen”

At The Ramp

“The RAMP is a unique youth and conference center located in the heart of Hamilton, Alabama. It is the home of Chosen, a group of thirty young people who travel with Karen Wheaton and minister in drama and dance, and also home to hundreds of other young people who are being dramatically changed by the power of God.

At least six annual youth conferences (Summer Ramp I & II, Winter Ramp I & II, Spring Breakthrough and Fall Ramp) are greatly anticipated regular events that overflow with more than 1,200 young people. No matter what the occasion, the altars are consistently filled with young people turning their backs on sin, mediocrity, drug addiction, alcoholism, abuse, etc., and surrendering their lives to the Lord.

The RAMP offers today’s generation an alternative to the streets and abuses of the world. Everyone is welcome to come and experience the passion, the fire, and the result of their praise ushering in His awesome presence!”

http://www.youthpastor.com/resource/index.cfm/The_RAMP_Karen_Wheaton_Ministries_10019.htm#.UgKKA20phEI

“The Ramp is a ministry of awakening based out of Hamilton, Alabama, where hundreds gather each month from across the nation and world to pursue the real Jesus. We’re loud. We’re aggressive. We hope to jolt the complacent out of stupor and into the reality of God. Our mission is to awaken a generation out of spiritual death and religious complacency, calling them to their individual purpose and corporate responsibility as an offensive army imposing the kingdom of God. Although youth and young adults primarily attend, the Ramp is not just a youth thing; it’s a hunger thing. It’s an awakening thing – it’s for all those in need of an awakening whose desire is to then turn and awaken others.”

http://theramp.org/about/

“Karen Wheaton is a seasoned Christian minister whose music and preaching has provoked listeners to pursue God in passionate worship for many years.

In 1998 the emphasis of her ministry took a surprising turn as God called her to move back to her hometown of Hamilton, Alabama and to begin working with the youth of the community.

Today, she continues to travel and minister, but her efforts are primarily focused at the Ramp where thousands gather every year to be transformed by the presence of God and equipped to win their cities. Karen has given her life for the vision and mission of awakening. Part of this includes raising up spiritual sons and daughters, weekly teaching students at Ramp School of Ministry and continually developing young men and into the mature believers God has called them to be.”

http://theramp.org/about/karen-wheaton/

“‘Chosen’ is a group of young ministers who have set themselves to awaken a generation. They are the Ramp’s ministry team. They work under and alongside Karen Wheaton as spiritual sons and daughters, serving the heart and assignment of awakening. Whether through expressing in dance and drama, preaching and teaching, ministering, or worshiping, they call their generation to radical lifestyles of holiness and consecration. Each of them have a personal story of deliverance from bondage such as suicide, cutting, drugs, pornography, and complacent Christianity. They are now rescued ones seeking to rescue others.”

“We are a dedicated group reaching people for Jesus Christ.

We put God in the front of this ministry

we are His tools being used to glorify Him.”

“Now Behold the Lamb.

The precious Lamb of God.

Born into sin that I may enter in

The Precious Lamb of God.

We celebrate the precious sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

He came into this world humble

And left as the atonement of sins.

All sins.

Praise be the Name of Jesus Christ.

Forever and ever and ever more!!!!

He is risen from the grave

And set us free from the bondage of sin.

We thank You today, Jesus

For Your perfect sacrifice

You payed a debt that was not Yours.

How thankful am I

A sinner

Saved by Your wonderful mercy and grace.”

Revelation 5:12

“In a loud voice

they were saying:

‘Worthy is the Lamb,

who was slain,

to receive power

and wealth

and wisdom

and strength

and honor

and glory

and praise!'”

Revelation 5: 6-14

“Then I saw a Lamb,

looking as if it had been slain,

standing at the center of the throne,

encircled by the four living creatures and the elders.

The Lamb had seven horns and seven eyes,

which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth.

He went and took the scroll from the right hand of Him who sat on the throne.

And when He had taken it,

the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders

fell down before the Lamb.

Each one had a harp

and they were holding golden bowls full of incense,

which are the prayers of God’s people.

And they sang a new song, saying:

‘You are worthy to take the scroll

and to open its seals,

because You were slain,

and with Your blood You purchased for God

persons from every tribe and language and people and nation.

You have made them to be a kingdom

and priests to serve our God,

and they will reign on the earth.’

Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels,

numbering thousands upon thousands,

and ten thousand times ten thousand.

They encircled the throne

and the living creatures and the elders.

In a loud voice they were saying:

‘Worthy is the Lamb,

who was slain,

to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength

and honor and glory and praise!’

Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea,

and all that is in them, saying:

‘To Him who sits on the throne

and to the Lamb

be praise and honor and glory and power,

for ever and ever!’

The four living creatures said,

‘Amen,’

and the elders fell down and worshiped.”

“These Bible verses about teachers enlighten us

first on the exceptional responsibility that one has while teaching.

Due to the impact a teacher has on a student,

one quote warns us that teachers will be judged

with a greater strictness than others.

Jesus is often called a teacher

and he himself confirmed that he was one;

the apostles were also teachers.

The teaching passages above

also insist that the ability to teach is a gift

in which the teacher serves others

and leads by example

with the objective to make the students

as wise as the teacher.

It is the teacher’s task to study,

handle the truth correctly,

and teach accurate information

while treating the pupil with respect.

These quotes identify integrity,

Our friends from church,

image

Mike and Janene Harper and their family (Brittany, Bethany, and Nataley)

are in Nicaragua working with

YWAM (Youth With A Mission)

http://www.ywam.org/

for about 10 days.

Many in our church family have helped sponsor and support them

on their last couple of trips.

Our Pastor shared last Sunday

about being the “Salt & Light” of the World…

Now they’re sharing the Light of Christ in Nicaragua.

He asked for prayer for them and the team that is there,

along with the country they’re serving…

Prayer for their safety,

for the people there who do not know Jesus,

and that lives will be forever changed!

Here’s the latest update from the Harper’s

and it’s truly amazing to read.

“Boy, are we beat!

We spent yesterday in the town of Masatepe learning the town.

We began prayer-walks all over the city that we’ll distribute Bibles in.

They’re hard covered whole Bibles,

and the people are so excited we’re coming.

image(1)

The churches were asked to respond, if they wanted to help.

Over 35 churches and 180 people responded!

Amazing!

Today our 4 teams of 12 will start distribution.

My team will be at the construction site

and at the YWAM base, building a home,

and working on updating the base.

This town is Dirambe.

It’s a very poor area,

where the base started its vision in 1996

of getting a Bible into the hands of every Nicaraguan family by 2020.

This first city reached, has seen dramatic changes in crime and violence.

They have become a city with Hope!

 They love Jesus!

And now reach other cities!

I can’t wait to visit this city again.

Kelly, the director, should be there today.

He has been a missionary in Nicaragua

through YWAM for a long time.

We’ve worked with him before,

so it’s nice to know a face there.

The YWAM school we are considering is his school.

It’s a bilingual school.

My husband, Mike, preached last night

for about half an hour

on the importance of relationship with Christ,

and allowing that overflow to pour out to others.

The Nicas “Amend-ed” and agreed!

He had a translator, who is our team leader.

She’s from Spain.

Her name is Gail.

They worked great together.

The church was an Assembly of God.

It was a whopping 1 1/2 hour worship time.

Wow!

We sang,

‘Open The Eyes Of My Heart, Lord’

in English and Spanish

Wow!

How it pleases God’s heart to hear our worship!!

We’re all still well, so far.

We’ve eaten many foods and styles of foods.

It was hard on the tummy at first,

but it’s getting better.

We’ve had an amazing several days.

God’s given the girls great boldness in witnessing.

We’ve been distributing Bibles with churches.

My team has 2 precious Nica ladies.

They helped me lead a family

to Jesus, who

they had never even heard of.

I got to tell them the whole story.

They cried,

and were excited to give their lives to Christ.

When we left,

we saw them reading the Bible already.

Amazing!

Their names were taken down by the local church,

who saw many families already added to their numbers.

The church had new people show up for the Wednesday service to hear more.

The Pastor could not stop thanking us,

and the people in America who sent us.

It put feet to the ministry God started for him.

Some locals and our team ministered at the dump with about 100 children.

I met Eduardo (an 8-year-old boy) there,

and again God allowed my heart to break.

Oh, my heart!

We fed them and played with them.

It was such a day!

I so could have packed him up and kept him.

I could have kept all of them!

Today was distribution and school ministry.

The Principal allowed us to minister to 250-300 kids.

This was a public school!

It was unheard of before.

We went from class to class with the Gospel.

Only God allowed such favor!

We talked to the children about how the world labels us,

and how Jesus cuts those labels off,

and calls us His children!

Each of us spoke.

Brittany gave the Gospel to high schoolers.

What boldness!

Please keep praying.

When I felt very low and overtired,

I prayed,

and God revealed to me

that there are so many lifting us to the Father

right at that moment!

I so needed that.

Thank you for agreeing to do that for us.

We love you

and thank you all for believing in this mission.

Live from Nicaragua (Tuesday PM)

“Today was a very long day for us,

but we saw God do great things.

We had the privilege of teaming up with several local churches

to hand out Bibles door to door.

We told many people the Gospel,

encouraged them to read their shiny, new Bibles,

and laid hands on the sick.

Many gave their lives to God!

In spite of our poor attempts at the Spanish language,

God still used us to do great things!

Later in the day,

we went to one of the city dumps,

where many families live by digging through the garbage for their food and belongings.

One person said it well,

‘It was hard for us to take, but it was well received by them.’

We fed them,

demonstrated God’s love for them,

and made them feel important.

Here, many consider them ‘garbage.’

Yesterday, we helped build a house for a needy family,

did some much needed painting at the YWAM base here in Nicaragua,

and did street ministry.

We are definitely not sitting around wasting time

and, as you can see, neither is God!!

He is answering your prayers,

working in our hearts

and moving in Nicaragua!

He is a great God to say the least!!

Love, Janene and familia”

Please pray for our friends…

For the children and people of Nicaragua…

That Jesus would become real to them!!

Isaiah 52:7

Holy Spirit, “Super Soak” Me!

Standard

Yesterday was our last day of school!

“Yipee!!!” said all the teachers…

“Hooray!!!” said all the students…

“Oh, Dear Lord, No!” said all the parents…

Ha!

We decided to have a “Water” Fun Day to celebrate!!

Wear sandals or water shoes to school…

And bring a change of clothes!!

Let the games begin!!

It was Super Soaker Heaven!

We had water toys of all types and sizes!

Thinking I was going to merely be in the defensive mode…

If the kids were rude enough to come bother me…

In my lawn chair in the quiet, shade under the nearest tree…

I did not purchase a Super Soaker!!

My son did!!

A really nice, big one!!

I brought a ketchup/mustard “squeezy-thing,” like they have in diners!

Sometimes, I just don’t know any better!

Ha!

The kids parked themselves as near as they could get to the water spigot…

Filled and refilled their toys, cups, and the whole Tupperware container…

Soaked everything and everyone in sight!!!

While I, and one of our volunteers…

Talked, shooed them away, and tried to keep things dry!

When I tired of not joining in the fun…

I grabbed my ketchup/mustard “squirty-thing” filled with water…

And started squeezing it at everybody!!

Such fun!!!

But, I ran out of “fuel” quickly!!

While I was refilling…

The Super Soaker people got me, and got me good!!

But, I didn’t care, it was a beautiful day to be soaking wet!!

Then, I had this idea to go soak my son…

Who was soaking the older kids…

Armed with the dinky, little, plastic ketchup/mustard weapon I had…

I attacked!!

 He retaliated, and saturated me!!

I went back for reinforcements, and rallied the elementary kids to join me…

They had all the good tools that could drench!!

It worked…

I was elated to soak my son!

‘Til my son brought his troops to our territory…

Sneaked up behind me…

Aimed and fired…

As I laughed with joy!!

Great to be alive!

Very wet and happily alive!!

Unfortunately…

Some of our kids were not so joyful with our fun, wet plans for the last day of school…

One stayed home…

One slept most of the day…

Under a desk…

One refused to get wet…

And got upset when he did!!

Do you see yourself here???

When the Holy Spirit is moving…

Do you stay home?

Sleep?

Hide?

Refuse to get wet?

Let’s enjoy God’s washing…

He’s pouring out His Spirit like rain…

5-29-13 Golf Course 086“You Heavens above,

rain down My righteousness;

let the clouds shower it down.

Let the earth open wide,

let salvation spring up,

let righteousness flourish with it;

5-29-13 Golf Course 061Soak it up!

Be saturated!

And splash away!!

God’s With Us!!

Dear Holy Spirit…

Super Soak us!

Saturate us!!

Help us to not just sit on the sidelines…

And watch while others receive Your drenching, and power!

Help us to appreciate when someone else gets filled with Your Spirit…

Or receives something overflowing from You!!

Hey! Did You Hear? My Son Is Now Quoting Me On FB!

1-16-13 Walk 015

Does that mean I’m really a writer!?!  Ha!

It just started last week!

We were at drama practice sitting around trying to think of some good choreography…

For “Me Without You” by tobymac…

Great song!

There’s an instrumental part (sort of robotic-sounding) in the middle of the song…

And we were trying to think of cool movements for it…

So, as we were tossing ideas back and forth…

One of us (probably me!  Ha!) said,

“How about if Jesus was a robot in this part???”

Everyone laughed, except for one of our newer boys!

He had been asking questions all practice…

Like…

“Why do we need to BE a piano?

Or turn ourselves into musical instruments?”

We tried to explain how human video dramas are done at Fine Arts competitions…

If the song talks about a ladder…

We need to MAKE a ladder using the people in the drama…

If there’s a hill…

We MAKE a hill with our bodies!

Still he didn’t get it!!

So I guess the “robot-Jesus” idea was the last straw!!

He was so exasperated with all of us…

That he said, “That’s just really offensive to talk about Jesus like that!!”

That’s when I said the line that my son quoted on FB!!

“Don’t take us as seriously as you’re trying to!!!”

All the older kids cracked up…

My son wrote it down and posted it…

As a quote from his wise Mom…

And I got 20 “Likes” on his FB page!!

Two days later, I had a funny dream that I remembered completely…

Most of it was a convoluted story of us moving into a new house…

Realizing that it was falling apart…

That the previous owners left all their stuff…

Even a kielbasa/hotdog- looking food item in the grill, etc., etc.

Oh, and I dropped my cell phone in a lake!

Crazy!

But, at the end of the dream…

I was coming home late from somewhere…

And my retired cop husband was sitting in his car in a Foodtown parking lot where we used to live in NJ…

Waiting for me to make sure I was safe…

I saw him sitting in his car with the headlights on…

And I thought, “How nice!”

Just as I was going to turn right to pull into the parking lot…

A HUGE Moose

Came charging at the left side of my car!!

I was at a red light…

But, I said to myself…

“I remember what my husband always said to me!

‘If a HUGE Moose came at you, even if you’re at a traffic light…

Step on the gas and get out of there!!'”

By this time, after telling my husband and son this crazy dream…

We were all laughing hysterically!!

My husband does give us lots of safety tips…

But never once about a HUGE Moose!!

But, I got 30 “Likes” on that one!

One of my friends read it and didn’t understand it!

Guess you had to be there!

My philosophy is…

To never take myself or life too seriously!

Ahhhh…Laughter!

Belly laughs…

Joy, Joy, Joy!!!

Jesus, give me more of it!!

“A joyful heart is good medicine…”  Proverbs 17:22

 “Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with shouts of joy;

Then they said among the nations, ‘The Lord has done great things for them.’”  Proverbs 126:2

“A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance…”  Ecclesiastes 3:4

“A glad heart makes a cheerful face, but by sorrow of heart the spirit is crushed.”  Proverbs 15:13

“Be glad in the Lord, and rejoice, O righteous, and shout for joy, all you upright in heart!”  Psalm 32:11

How They Have Ministered To Me…

Standard

Our Drama Team is my passion from God!!

Sometimes, I can’t even express…

How much of a blessing they are to me!

Here’s an English essay written by one of our newest Drama Team members, about practice at our church’s Warehouse…

He said,

“On Friday nights…

You won’t find me at home, but instead, at a Warehouse…

This isn’t any old, smelly Warehouse, but one filled with love, joy, and, of course, delicious snacks!

Every Friday night our Drama Team meets at this Warehouse…

This Drama Team is a church ministry, led by several dedicated leaders, including two teachers at my Christian school.

Along with drama, Improv is another thing we do that fills the Warehouse with laughter!

But, drama is not all fun and games.

It’s exercise and hard work…

But I’m enjoying it!

Drama Team practice provides me with Christian friends and fellowship.

It’s pleasing to God, because we minister to others, and praise Him at the same time.

Arrive early, so you can socialize!!

As soon as drama begins, a song is selected and played, which will start worship time.

Worship time is “God’s Time…”

It’s when we go to a spot of our choice, in the Warehouse, and individually praise God during the song.

Usually this is a tranquil time, depending on who gets to choose the song, and what type of song is selected!

After the song ends, we all get in a circle, and pray for prayer requests…

And we thank God for praise reports!

When we’re finished, we begin practicing for our human video drama.

In this type of drama, a person or group of people, performs silently to a song, and acts out the words with motions.

We need patience in order to learn the motions, because our leaders usually revise them, and revise them!

During practice it is important that we don’t disrupt our leaders.

In addition to these weekly practices, the last Friday of every month, also includes Improv…

Improv is spontaneous, unscripted acting…usually comedic.

I like this drama ministry for several reasons:

I find enjoyment by acting out the words of the song using motions, and I’m getting good exercise…

I love meeting with other Christian friends…

Whether they’re home schooled, or from private and public schools.

This drama ministry is pleasing to God…

And He led me to this drama team to minister to others.

We encourage believers and unbelievers, when we minister in our communities…

God’s pleased when I spend time with other Christians…

And when we praise Him during our community outreaches…

So, if you’re bored on Friday nights, come and meet us, and God, at The Warehouse!!

And while you’re there…

Meet our dedicated leaders…

Participate in drama and Improv…

Get lots of exercise…

Enjoyment…

And a chance to visit with other Christians!

Also, be prepared to minister and praise God.”

I love this, don’t you???

I’m blessed, right?

After looking back on all my years…

I know the Lord has given me the ability to see God-given potential in everyone!

I always find something I love about every person…

And I care enough to “water” (encourage) those beautiful “seeds” with love, to watch them grow for the Lord!

I treat all people (kids, teens, young adults…whoever) as if they’re sitting right next to me in a pew at church…

And I ask myself, “How would I treat them, there?”

Well, of course, I would treat them as Jesus would…

With love and compassion!

I believe visitors in church, may have come in with a crisis…

And need to be “loved on,” not judged!

I believe people in this world just don’t know yet who to turn to, with their crisis.

So we can’t respond to them with judgement…

We were in that same place once, also!

I can’t stressed that enough…

We were ALL there, too!!

We’re not better!!

We’ve been there…Done that!

And then, Jesus picked us up!

I know I’m the one God is sending, at the exact moment I meet them, to point the “Way” to Jesus!!

And many times…

Without even saying a word!!

So whether I’m teaching, writing, ministering, directing our Drama Team, working with little children, spending time with the elderly, praying for prayer requests, loving on family and friends…

It’s all about “Shining

So they can see Jesus!!

I’m confident in Him!!

That the “seeds” He plants will grow and blossom!!

You can be, too!

Bless someone to be blessed!

Go ahead…love on someone TODAY!

Make their Day!

Thanks Mr. Sargeant…Wherever You Are…

Soooo, I dug through some old, old papers and I found it!

The first fiction story I ever wrote in sophomore year in high school for my favorite class…English, with Mr. Sargeant.

Check out the comments my favorite teacher wrote on my paper!  I love that teacher!  Even back then, he knew…I was destined to write!

I’m putting this story on my blog more for me than for you…it’s part of my past…my history…a story I actually completed!  Ha!

And it will give my son a laugh…

It’s such a sweet story…I’m going to leave in all the innocent nuances.  Remember, it was written a long time ago…

Is it the same now-a-days?

I substitute in high school now, so I think not!

So here you go…my title page…read on…

JEANETTE DISCOVERS AMERICA

This teen fiction short story is dedicated to my favorite English teacher, Mr,
Sargeant, for his pleasure and enjoyment.

Please note:  The conversation spoken by Jeanette must be read with a strong
French accent in order to get the full enjoyment that it is meant to give.

Mr. Sargeant’s Comments:

“Very, very well done!!  The best in the class!

Good detail!  Good dialogue!  Good organization!

I’m sorry, but I don’t have a strong French accent.

How about an Irish one?”

Don’t you just love that???  Thanks, Mr. Sargeant…wherever you are…this is still dedicated to you!!  For inspiring me & apprecaiting my story!!

They were finally on their way to the United States and there was no turning back now.  Jeanette Dupont was, of course, very excited and very scared.  She was sure she would love the United States for she had heard so many wonderful things about it.  She sat on the boat looking out over the water, dreaming of her new life in America. She had tried very hard to master the language, but found it necessary to use her own language for the more difficult words.

“There you are, Jeanette!  I have been looking all over for you.  We’re almost there, aren’t you excited?” her mother said as she approached her, and interrupted her daydreaming.

“Oui mama, je suis tres agite!” Jeanette answered.

“Now Jeanette, you know what I told you. You are to speak English now, or no one will understand you.  I had a terrible time telling people what I wanted the last time I was in the United States. If you want to come here to live, you cannot speak French all the time,” Jeanette’s mother said firmly.

She kissed her mother on the cheek and answered apologetically, “I…am…sorry, I…weel…try…harder.”

“Now hurry and get cleaned up, we’re almost ready to land,” her mother said happily.

The trip across the Atlantic on the big ocean liner had been very pleasant-and thrilling for Jeanette, yet she still couldn’t wait to get to the United States.  Jeanette, a “petite” 17-year-old, with long blond hair and blue eyes, was really something to look at. She was
always bubbling over with some sort of exciting news.  Although she had been a little hesitant when her mother had discussed plans to live in America, her mother knew that Jeanette would have no trouble at all making friends in her new surroundings.  She and her mother had become great companions since her father’s death five years before.  Now that most of the grief was gone, Mrs. Dupont felt that coming to the United States was the best opportunity for her to become a successful writer.

Jeanette sat in her room just thinking before getting  ready to leave the ship.  She was very pleased with her mother’s decision to move to the states and she loved her dearly for it.  She knew that her mother’s main reason was to secure a future for Jeanette.  Her only fear was that her new classmates would not accept her, even though her mother constantly assured her that she would fit in very well. She had many friends in Paris, where they lived, and she had been sad to leave them.  She would miss them greatly, especially if she did not make any friends at her new school.

She had promised to write them each a letter once a week and she desperately wanted them to visit her, but that seemed impossible.
Jeanette’s mother had purchased a small, contemporary house in one of the suburbs of New York.  Everything would be ready for them when they arrived, since they had sent all their furniture and clothes ahead.  Jeanette had been enrolled in a beautiful neighborhood high school, while Mrs. Dupont had a job in New York City that she seemed happy about.  When they finally arrived in New York, Mrs. Dupont was anxious to show Jeanette her new home.  After a short ride they pulled up in front of the house.  Jeanette took one look and gave a shout.

“Mama, eet ees beeuteeful,” she said with such glee that her mother had to laugh.

The house had natural wood siding, huge windows, and two skylights.  One in the family room and one in her bedroom.  There was a deck encircling the house which overlooked a professionally landscaped front yard.  Jeanette fell in love with it immediately.  It was autum, so the trees and bushes were golden in color giving the house a magical appearance.  As soon as her mother opened the front door, Jeanette ran through each room singing and dancing.  It pleased Mrs. Dupont to see Jeanette so elated.  Since it was Saturday, they took their time to set up everything just the way they wanted it.  They were having a great time and by Sunday evening the house was just right.  But, this gave Jeanette little opportunity to meet any friends over the weekend.

So as Monday came, she still had not met anyone to walk to school with.  School in this area had only begun about a week ago, so she hadn’t really missed much work, it was just that she wanted to have friends to go to school with.  Jeanette got ready for school that
first day with a mixture of nervousness, and also relief that the day was finally here.

“Come on Jeanette, hurry, you don’t want to be late on the first day.  I’ll drive you because I think there are more information forms for
me to fill out,” Jeanette’s mother shouted from downstairs.

Jeanette’s first thought about the school was that it was the most modern one she had ever seen. She was sure she had seen modern buildings before, but they just didn’t seem to come to her mind at this moment.

“I think you’re going to like this new school, Jeanette,” her mother whispered.

“Me too!” she answered.

They went into the office together to fill out the papers, and then the school secretary showed them where her home room was.
Her Mother left, and since she had a few minutes before the bell rang, she decided to walk arround the school by herself.  She was walking down the hall looking everything over when suddenly from around the corner someone came rushing into her.  She was so startled by this accident that she could do nothing but sit where she had fallen.  When she finally did look up, she looked up into the eyes of the cutest boy she had ever seen.  She sat there for at least two minutes just staring at him, and she later realized that he too, must have been doing the same.

Finally he spoke,”Gee, I’m awfully sorry, let me help you up.  I was in such a hurry that I didn’t watch where I was going!  Are you alright?”

Oui, , I…am…fine,” Jeanette stammered, suddenly ashamed of her strong French accent.”

“Oh, you’re the new French girl we’ve been waiting for!  Ummm, not bad,”  he exclaimed giving her his full attention now.  “Not bad at
all!”

“I…do…not…understand…when…you…say…you…have…been…waiting for…me,” she said, very confused now.

Wel,l the news got out somehow that a French girl was enrolled in our school and most of us boys have never seen a real French
girl, so we were kind of curious.  I’m glad I saw you first though.  I did didn’t I?” he asked hopefully.

“Oui, I have not met anyone else yet,” she replied sadly.

“Oh, I can take care of that, come with me,” he said leading the way down the hall. “Where’ s your home room anyway?”

“Right here, room 203,”  Jeanette was breathless, she had not expected to meet anyone so soon, and now she was being escorted by one of the cutest boys she had ever-seen.

“Well what do you know, this is my home room too!  Now I can keep a watch out for you.”

Jeanette laughed and he smiled.

“Come on, I’ll introduce you to some of the other kids.  Hey, you didn’t tell me what your name is, how can I introduce you?  Mine’s Ronnie.  Ronnie Renalls.”

“Oh , my name eez Jeanette.  Jeanette Dupont.”

“Okay Jeanette, let’s meet the other kids.”

“Hey, Ronnie, whose the doll?” a boy shouted out as they walked in the room, and Jeanette blushed.

“Kids, I want you to meet the new French girl.  Her name is Jeanette Dupont,” Ronnie announced with great pleasure.

Everyone started talking at once, saying “Hello” and asking, “Can you speak English?”

Jeanette was too confused to say anything, so she just stood there listening, but she was also very happy.  She felt that she was pretty lucky to have met such a popular and friendly boy like Ronnie.

“Boy, Ronnie, you didn’t waste any time in meeting her did you?” one girl shouted out.

“Oh I just ran into her in the hall and I mean that literally.  I collided with her while I was rushing to get here as usual.  Fortunate for me,” he laughed, and everyone laughed with him.

“So wait a minute everyone, give her a chance to breathe.  Jeanette, this is Judy, our very successful cheerleading captain, she’s going
steady with Bob here,” Ronnie said pointing to a good-looking boy sitting near Judy.

“You make it sound like hands off!” Bob answered sounding regretful.

“Well isn’t it?!” Judy replied firmly to Bob.

After Ronnie had introduced her to all the kids in her home room, it was time for classes to start.  She and Ronnie matched her schedule with everyone ‘s to see who she could walk to classes with. They found that Judy was in her next class and in her lunch period, too.   And that another girl named Darlene was in her gym class, while  Ronnie was in her study hall at the end of the day.

“I’ll see you in study hall, Jeanette,” Ronnie shouted down the hall after the bell rang.

“Fine, I weel see you then.”

When she and Judy were by themselves, Judy asked, “Well, how do you like our school? You know you’re very lucky to have made such an impression on Ronnie, there isn’t much most girls in this school wouldn’t do to get a date with him.  After all, being captain of the football and basketball teams make him pretty special, and of course he is so terribly cute and friendly;”

Jeanette wanted to tell Judy all her feelings about her new life, but there just wasn’t time. S0, all she said was, “I love this school, eet eez so beeuteeful! You are all so warm and friendly to me. I hope we can become good friends.”

“I’m sure we can,” Judy smiled.

Jeanette went through the rest of the day in a daze, meeting so many new people was very tiring.  She looked forward to seeing Ronnie in study hall, and when they met, he motioned for her come over and talk to him before the bell rang.

“How are things going? Anybody give you any trouble?” Ronnie asked.

“Non, I love za school and everyzing,” she answered happily.

“That’s  fine. How about letting me walk you home after school today, okay?  I have French this year as one of my subjects and I have
just decided that you are the one to help me with it.”

“I would reely bee happy to, if you weel help me weeth my English.  Weel you?” she shyly asked.

“Of course, I think, this will work out fine.  You’ll pass English and I get a French tutor,” he replied.

After school Jeanette met Ronnie as he walked her home, she got to know him a little better and found that even though they were from different countries they had many things in common.

As they approached her house she saw her mother drive up and she waved.

“Mama, this eez Ronnie Renalls.  He has been so friendly to me today, he introduced me to everyone.”

“Well, this is certainly a pleasure, Ronnie.  I’m very happy to meet you.  Jeanette needed someone like you today, she was so nervous
this morning,” Jeanette’s mother said greeting them.

“Oh , it was my pleasure!”  Ronnie said as he looked at Jeanette.

“Mother, Ronnie asked me to help him with hees French lessons and he ees going to help me with my English lessons.”

To Ronnie she added, “Why don’t you stop by here tonight so we can geet started?”

“It ees alright, ees it not Mama?”

“Of course it is,” her mother answered.

“Well that’s great, I will, thanks. I’ll have to get home now though if I’ll be coming back tonight.  Okay?  I’ll see you tonight then
Jeanette.  Bye!” Ronnie waved goodbye and left.

As Jeanette and her mother walked into the house, Jeanette exclaimed, ” Mama, j”aime les Americains!”

LA FIN

*For those who have not had the pleasure of studying the French language, Jeanette said, “Mother, I love the Americans!”
