(This is a response to Job’s afflictions by his friend Bildad,
when Job’s three friends came with sincerity and tender sympathy to comfort Job,
and yet proved miserable comforters!)
Does God Mess Up?
Bildad from Shuhah was next to speak:
“How can you keep on talking like this? You’re talking nonsense, and noisy nonsense at that. Does God mess up? Does God Almighty ever get things backward? It’s plain that your children sinned against Him— otherwise, why would God have punished them? Here’s what you must do—and don’t put it off any longer: Get down on your knees before God Almighty. If you’re as innocent and upright as you say, it’s not too late—He’ll come running; He’ll set everything right again, reestablish your fortunes. Even though you’re not much right now, you’ll end up better than ever.”
Lately, she’s been thinking what her daddy said, How when you’re winning, you got more friends, But are they your friends, if you fall, they’re gone? Something about those kind of people seems wrong.
Who’s gonna be there when the phone call knocks her down? All of the steeples, but she can’t hear a bell sound, Jumps on a bus to head downtown, And picks up the paper that’s been blowing around, it says,
“When your heart breaks, He’ll hurt for you! Dreams are out of reach, He’ll pull you through! When you lose hope, all you gotta do is, Get on your knees again!
Not long now and you’re gonna see, No mountain’s too high for you, or for me, Or fall too far, if you can believe, And get on your knees, on your knees again!”
She folds up the paper and puts it in her bag, Knows she really needs a Savior like that! Walking past her church just up the street, Says, “Maybe it’s time to get on my knees!”
‘Cause He was there when no one was around, All of the people, but no one made a sound, Thinks of her brother, who’s been feeling down, Pulls out the paper and reads it aloud,
You’ve given everything you’ve got, Still it’s hard to believe, Love comes from the inside out, If you wanna be free!
Ya gotta give your love and never stop! When you think about giving up, Get on your knees!
When you’ve given everything you’ve got Ya gotta give your love and never stop!!
Ephesians 6:18
“And pray in the Spirit on all occasions
with all kinds of prayers and requests.
With this in mind,
be alert
and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.”
I stare out the window into the backyard. From my breakfast table I can see a summer robin fluffing out her feathers. The trees reach up to the sky with new leaves that wave good morning. A chubby squirrel gathers a few acorns to save for later. As I look, I realize the pace beyond my windows is so different than the one within them. We, as humans, are tempted to hurry. And yet it seems God is intent on slowing us down.
He gives us a Sabbath and we work through the weekend.
He gives us three meals a day to let us slow down and we pick fast food.
He gives us eight hours of sleep a night and we try to squeak by on far less.
We hurry when we’re afraid that we’ll be late, miss out on something, or disappoint someone. God doesn’t need to hurry because he has all the time in eternity. This is good news for us, friends. It means…
God will not rush your healing.
And God will not rush your growth.
God is okay with where you are right now. He’s not tapping his toe impatiently. He’s not looking at his watch with a sigh. He’s not trying to get you out the door a few minutes sooner. The God who loves you is willing to give you the time you need. All of time belongs to him and he is generous with it. He gives it freely to fluffy birds and friendly trees and chubby squirrels. And he’ll give it to you.
“This is the confidence we have in approaching God:
that if we ask anything according to His will,
He hears us.
And if we know that He hears us—
whatever we ask—
we know that we have what we asked of Him.”
Romans 12:2
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world,
but be transformed
by the renewing of your mind.
Then you will be able to test
and approve what God’s will is—
His good, pleasing and perfect will.”
John 8:28-29
So Jesus said,
“When you have lifted up the Son of Man,
then you will know that I am He
and that I do nothing on My own
but speak just what the Father has taught Me.
The One who sent Me is with Me;
He has not left Me alone,
for I always do what pleases Him.”
Proverbs 16:7
“When a man’s ways please the Lord,
He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.”

“…your life flows through different seasons. Each of these seasons carries with it different time constraints, blessings, and demands. To try to do all things without being cognizant of the season you are in is the surest way to burnout and even bitterness…Yet God never said that you would receive praise for trying to please others….Place what God says and what God requires as the highest priority in your life.” Chrystal Evans Hurst

She dropped the phone and burst into tears The doctor just confirmed her fears Her husband held it in and held her tight Cancer don’t discriminate or care if you’re just 38 With three kids who need you in their lives He said, “I know that you’re afraid and I am, too But you’ll never be alone, I promise you”
When you’re weak, I’ll be strong When you let go, I’ll hold on When you need to cry, I swear that I’ll be there to dry your eyes When you feel lost and scared to death, Like you can’t take one more step Just take my hand, together we can do it
I’m gonna love you through it.
She made it through the surgery fine They said they caught it just in time But they had to take more than they planned Now it’s forced smiles and baggy shirts To hide what the cancer took from her But she just wants to feel like a woman again She said, “I don’t think I can do this anymore” He took her in his arms and said “That’s what my love is for”
When you’re weak, I’ll be strong When you let go, I’ll hold on When you need to cry, I swear that I’ll be there to dry your eyes When you feel lost and scared to death, Like you can’t take one more step Just take my hand, together we can do it I’m gonna love you through it.
And when this road gets too long I’ll be the rock you lean on Just take my hand, together we can do it I’m gonna love you through it. I’m gonna love you through it.
