Special December Month Long Posts on Jesus

Special announcement:

In a change from our usual posting schedule, Meet Me in the Meadow will feature a different posting each weekday throughout the month of December. These postings will focus on the birth and the life of Jesus Christ. It is our prayer that these postings will help you to behold Him and adore Him more and more.

A Child is Born

For unto us a child is born, unto us a Son is given. Isaiah 9:6

To those in sin, God sent us the Savior;
To those in darkness, God sent us the Light;
To those in bondage, God sent us the Deliverer;
To those in defeat, God sent us the Victor;
To those in want, God sent us the Shepherd;
To those in hunger, God sent us the Bread;
To those in pain, God sent us the Physician;
To those in doubt, God sent us the Truth;
To those in confusion, God sent us the Way;
To those in turmoil, God sent us the Prince of Peace;
To all in need, God sent His only begotten Son.

Sometimes I feel like my motto is the opposite: Do as much as possible as imperfectly as possible so I can just get by. That’s the worst. Don’t be me.

Instead I want to Do Less & Be More.
It’s cliche but true.

Right now, right before the crazy of the holidays is the perfect time for me to regroup and to remind myself that I don’t want to just get through Christmas and Thanksgiving distracted. I want to slow them down. I want to enjoy them. I want to BE.

What are you NOT doing this Christmas season to make it more meaningful?

Who Is Like Our God?

IamtheLORD.mmitm.mjb

I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me… Isaiah 45:5  KJV

You who have done great things; O God, who is like You? Psalm 71:19 NKJV

There is no God like our God!

We don’t need to help Him out for He is all-powerful;
We don’t need to give Him solutions for He is all-wise;
We don’t need to give Him explanations for He is all-knowing;
We don’t need to wake Him up for He never slumbers or sleeps;
We don’t need to hope that He will show up for He is always present;
We don’t need to try to figure Him out for His ways are past finding out;
We don’t need to make Him weapons of warfare for He knows no defeat;
We don’t need to try and get His attention for His ears are open to our cry;
We don’t need to be concerned about how He will take care of us for He is in control.

Another important step in gaining the mind of Christ is found in a word:

Remember

Where were we when Jesus found us? What was life like? What kinds of messes were we in at that time? If we aren’t filled with gratitude for what the Lord has done in us, then we’ve forgotten. StephenWhoElse made an excellent comment regarding Ministry That Matters. It was this:

“God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. (2 Cor 1:3-4)

If God has lifted us out from the same mess that the brokenhearted, downtrodden and desperate people are in, then we have a big responsibility to share with them the same comfort we received from God.”

Please note that our…

I love this!!!

I recently realized that none of Jesus’ disciples were “saved” when He called them to follow Him. Not one of them was a “Christian” – a believer.

This thought returns often as I ponder the significance of this truth.

Somehow, many have the idea that “ministry” in the church (i.e. to teach, preach, lead worship, or usher, etc.) is the “do-all” “end-all” of our existence. I’m having to re-think this belief. Corporate gatherings are for the purpose of worshiping our Lord and equipping the body.

Equipped for what? By today’s standards, the purpose would seem to be so we could have a happier week between services.

However, Jesus said,

“Love one another

as I loved you.”

(John 13:34)

The word havemakes me ask, “when”? Is He referring to these men at the end of their lives, when they finally “arrived” at spiritual maturity?

Or does He mean in the…

“Blessedness!” Oh, This Is Good!!

Blessedness!

The joys we draw.mmitm.mjb

According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God which was committed to my trust. 1 Timothy 1:11 NKJV

God, who is the author and giver of every blessing, is called the blessed God. Blessedness is a state of happiness. When we read that God is the blessed God, it means that He is a happy God and He wants to bring His happiness to us.

Why is God called the “happy God”? He is happy because He is holy. The joys we draw from the wells of salvation come to us from a pure fountain. If the Scriptures said, “God is unholy” then He would be without happiness, for there is no happiness to be found in darkness, in evil, or in sin.

Some people have painted a false image of holiness. They portray holiness as something associated with gloom, legalism, and grimness. They think of the fruits of holiness as unhappiness, meanness, and a sour disposition. However, it is important for us to remember that heaven, the holiest place of all, is also the happiest place of all.

It is also possible to have a wrong image of happiness. Happiness is not defined by someone who has a great sense of humor, is fun-loving, or has a bubbly personality. Happiness is a state of someone’s heart and sense of wellbeing, not a characteristic of someone’s temperament or a certain personality trait.

Who are the happiest people on earth? The Scriptures tell us, “Blessed (happy, enviably fortunate, and spiritually prosperous—possessing the happiness produced by the experience of God’s favor and especially conditioned by the revelation of His grace, regardless of their outward conditions) are the pure in heart, for they shall see God!” Matthew 5:8 AMP. (Note that this happiness of heart is true even in the midst of hardships and difficulties.)

True happiness comes to us as a fruit of our relationship with God through Christ. The blood of Jesus that cleanses us from all sin, not only removes our guilt and condemnation, but opens the doorway for our happiness (blessedness) by bringing us into a right relationship with God and allowing us to be partakers of His holiness (Hebrews 12:10).

I love the words spoken long ago by a new believer in Christ while giving his testimony of salvation during a church service, “Sometin’ in me got released for good. I swallowed sunshine! He has given me a mighty faith that has made me feel clean inside.”

How good it is to belong to a happy (blessed) God who brings happiness (blessedness) to His children.

Overwhelmed By Joy's avatarOverwhelmedByJoy

peace joyIf you are like most people, you find the months of October through December as the most hectic time of the year. That is generally true for our family as well…plenty of celebrations, holidays, and several family birthdays in December just for added stress fun. This year the mayhem began a few months earlier. We don’t get to schedule emergencies, do we?

It began with an exacerbation of my MS that meant approximately 6 weeks of traveling by wheelchair or walker. Not bad by normal standards for me, but still, those can never be planned in advance and I never know how long they will last. Next came health issues for family members on both sides of our families, some major and some minor. Flu, several surgeries, and much more.

We are also assisting someone during a transitional stage in their life. As part of this we started the transformation…
